The region of southern india lies in the peninsular Deccan Plateau and is bounded by the Arabian Sea in the west, Indian Ocean in the south and the Bay of Bengal in the eastern part. The geography of the region is diverse, having two mountain ranges — the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats. Godavari, Krishna, Tungabhadra and Kaveri rivers are important non-perennial sources of water. Inhabitants of South India are commonly named as South Indians.
